Many readers of An Absence Of Normal, have wanted to know what happened romantically with some of the main character. Bob encouraged me to write a possible epilogue five years later, pretending to be the character Dayly Love. We invite you to use your own imagination and write your own epilogue involving one or more of the characters. With your permission we may print it on our website.
July 8, 1988: Dayly Love writes in her journal
That was surely an amazing day, Friday the 8th, July 1983. So many people have asked me what happened to all those therapists that used to work here. I personally realized I was in love that day and have been celebrating every year since what I call the beginning. Now, five years later, I want to share with you what has happened to me and some of the other individuals who made such an impact on our Greenhouse.
Dr. Maximillian Wonderman and Dayly Love:
Of course, yes, we eventually did get married and had a great wedding over at Folsom Lake with all our Greenhouse friends. While we have stayed on at the Greenhouse, we plan to sell our house in 5 years and move to a condo in Hawaii. Max has finally finished his book on Imaginal Therapy and hopes to get published sometime this year. We laugh a lot and have volunteered to be subjects for Effie’s new research project using role playing to increase creative fun and sexual intimacy for couples. Last year I was thrilled to be given an honorary certificate for being the best non-credentialed therapist at the Greenhouse. I am now attending night school working toward my Masters’ Degree in Counseling. Max’s continues to be the most popular therapist at the Greenhouse. Really, he knows just how to make each patient feel they are important to him.
Dr. Sigh La High:
After completing 2 years at the Greenhouse Center as a sex therapist, Sigh fell in love with a man training to be a Guru. Sigh shared her story with me: “One day he just wandered into a group I was teaching at the Center and asked why he was there. He said he was traveling through town following his intuition when his car broke down right in front of the Greenhouse. He was sure there was an important reason for him to be forced to stop at the Greenhouse. He thought I would have the answer!’’
Sigh believed in synchronicity and trusted such events to mean far more than was probably ever meant. She thought she was destined to make a big change and, evidently, she thought he had the answer. Last we heard from her, she and her guru man had actually moved to Taos, NM where he hoped to practice his healing methods. Effie got a postcard from her recently, saying she was working for the local college, teaching spiritual psychology and that Mr. Guru had passed on suddenly last year, apparently from something he ate.
Dr. H. Effie Hughes and Harry Raison:
Effie and Harry have been together ever since that night they had wine together after our staff meeting. Seems to be a good match. Effie’s OED grant from NASA ended in 1985 after considerable success. She loved starting new programs and wrote a grant to study the effects of a game for lovers called Playlay. She is such a high achiever, staying up late planning for her Playlay groups while Harry writes his editorials for the Newspaper. You must have heard that Harry is now the main editor for the paper and is about to publish his first novel. She is very proud of him.
Effie has really focused her energy into developing her Playlay Game for Lovers. She is hoping her research will demonstrate that her game encourages and supports monogamous relationships.
Dr. Myrx Va Por and Dr. Larka Justice
Myrx and Larka became very close friends over the years as they shared interests in research in their respective fields of hypnosis and law. Their research was noticed by many others. To their surprise, they were both hired to teach and do original research at UCLA last year. Neither one of them have chosen to marry.
Myrx teaches a course called, How to Enlarge Your Imaginal State of Mind which is aimed toward those who want to learn how to use and extend their imaginations. Larka is pleased to announce research she is completing on how to eliminate dominance in the bedroom. Her premise is to show the positive effects of complete balance in all areas of life in order to gain longevity and positive health benefits.
Dr. Clyde Hudson and Dr. Sheldon Sheldon Minutae
Clyde could never get a practice going so he resigned and went another direction. I believe he took a job managing the training for mules going up and down the Grand Canyon.
Sheldon Minutae didn’t get much of a practice going either, so he moonlights at the local library where he reviews literature while he continues to apply for a teaching job. He seems obsessed with worry about money.
Dr. Newton Rotic and Patty Choirstone (aka Cowpatti)
The strangest story that we are still talking about at the Greenhouse involves Newton Rotic and the famous Patty Choirstone. Rotic took off after our staff meeting and had drinks that night at Poshes’ Restaurant and Lounge. Some believe he was kidnapped by a celebrity known locally as Cowpatti. He hasn’t been seen since that night. Of course, we felt no loss and hope he is enjoying his new found identity outside of the therapy world. He clearly is not cut out to be a therapist although he certainly had enough degrees and certificates.
We learned the real story about Cowpatti later from an article in the newspaper. She was actually the heiress to the Rubber and Bowtie Company. That Patti and Rotic got together was truly amazing, but it just goes to show you how little we actually know another person. Circumstances, or chance meetings, can lead to the most unexpected outcomes; maybe their meeting was meant to happen.
We later heard that they took off to Humboldt County to inspire and teach the farmers growing Pot about the spiritual qualities of their product. Cowpatti apparently convinced Rotic that, while pot is still illegal, it will eventually be recognized for its contribution to both the spiritual and healing worlds.
I often wondered how a person like Rotic might respond if a brand-new part of himself opened up and was fully revealed. Pot defiantly turned Rotic into a grasshopper. Apparently he has become the opposite of what he used to be. They say he is now not even recognizable to those who used to know him.
Danly Morso
I don’t personally know Danly very well although I set many appointments for him and observed his comings and goings way back when he was having weekly therapy sessions with Dr. Sheldon Minutae. Sheldon was always so happy to see Danly as he rarely had patients who agreed to come for weekly sessions.
I am so grateful that Danly helped Rotic to realize that he would never fit into the Greenhouse and life as a therapist. Evidently Pot was the magic formula that transformed Rotic and helped him to realize there is more to life than rigid logic and judgements of others. I later heard that Danly is a visionary and I was sorry when he just seemed to disappear from the Greenhouse about the same time Minutae left.
Sandy Dapple
Sandy, if you remember, was Max’s patient and was later referred to therapy with Dr. Sigh La High. She became one of the first to volunteer to play Effie’s Playlay Game For Lovers. Effie set up a number of partners for her with whom she could play the roles offered by the game. She was good at role playing and enjoyed the benefits of ample sex. After a while, she became an assistant leader and helped others learn how to accept their sexuality. Effie is now about to publish her game for the many who have requested more ways to improve and stimulate their relationships.
I hope you enjoyed meeting all the characters who worked or passed through the Greenhouse. Yes, a lot happened that day in the summer of 1983! Maybe I will write more at a later time.
